PROGRAMS & SERVICES:
HUMANE SOCIETY of CENTRAL ARIZONA ● “BECAUSE THEY MATTER”
Respect, Grace, Compassion & Love for the animals who
share our journey
Shelter, care and adoption for lost and
unwanted animals:
We welcome every
animal that we can legally accept and capably care for.
(number served will be
expanded in new facilities)
Adoption or Reuniting with a Lost “Family
Member” - new facilities:
Although the animals in our care receive
pampering we know that each of the animals is missing the
most important and wonderful thing in life…..a kind, loving
home and family of their own. To increase the potential for
the animals in our care to find a friend or family and to
reinforce the bond between humans and animals, the new
shelter will provide a pleasant place for people to come
when looking for a lost “family member” or to consider which
of the amazing adoptees will be the perfect choice to become
a “new” member of the family
Spay-neuter
information & assistance:
We are constant and vigilant in our efforts
to secure funds to assist those who lack funds to spay or
neuter their dog or cat. It is so important for so many
reasons. It is good for his or her health. In males, it
eliminates testicular cancer and decreases the incidence of
prostate disease. Neutered males are less likely to roam,
mark their territory or display aggression toward other
dogs. Spaying in which the reproductive organs are
removed, eliminates the possibility of uterine or ovarian
cancer and also greatly reduces the incidence of breast
cancer. Most importantly, animal overpopulation is
reduced and the incidence of euthanasia is lowered and
hopefully eliminated.
Contact
HSCAZ at 474-5590 for more information about low-cost spay
neuter programs and vouchers.
Spay, Neuter and Medical Facilities-new
facilities:
We recognize the importance of spay and
neuter for companion animals and have included an on-site
clinic in our new facilities in which spays and neuters will
be performed as well as other necessary medical treatments
and vaccinations.
Educational in school program focused
on compassionate care of animals and respect for living
things. (to be expanded in new facilities)
Teaching Compassionate Care and
Guardianship-new facilities:
A conference and education room will be
available for meetings and workshops to heighten awareness
of animal issues and create support and training.
Teaching respect for living things and
modeling responsible animal guardianship are important
aspects of who we are. We will offer animal communication
and care classes, and workshops in the planned conference
room.
Humanitarian Hold to house animals
whose owners are temporarily unable to care for them due to
life altering circumstances such as illness, homelessness,
domestic violence, etc. (limited at this time due to space
and conditions)
Humanitarian Hold - new facilities:
We will provide short-term care for companion
animals of at risk individuals/families, elderly, disabled,
and children who must leave their home temporarily due to
hospitalizations, rehabilitation, domestic violence,
homelessness or other life altering circumstances. The new
area for animals in Humanitarian Hold will allow such
families or individuals to have their companion animals
housed safely and lovingly in appropriate facilities.
Foster program to help young, ill or
special needs animals become adoptable through personal care
and love in temporary foster homes.
Senior to Senior program that pairs
older animals with “older” humans...a magical match for all.
Trap, Neuter, Release (TNR) program for
Feral Cats:
|
|
Friends of Ferals
(FF) is a branch of Humane Society of
Central Arizona which is dedicated to reducing
the number of unwanted feral cats that
are being destroyed each
year.
We follow the simple and
effective method called
Trap-Neuter-Return. |

We will help you
"trap, spay/neuter, and return them. It is the
only statically proven, humane method to control and
reduce the numbers of these cats. |
Emergency Care and Second Chance Program
helps to provide care for animals who have been injured or
become ill and for whom money is not available for
veterinary services. Funding is sought from organizations
such as the Build-A-Bear Workshop Bear Hugs Foundation,
local Paws in the Park non-profit group, and through public
donations.
Microchips for Dogs and Cats are tools
to identify a lost animal and are available through the
shelter.
About Euthanasia:
Because of extreme overpopulation not enough
homes are available for the cats and dogs who through no
fault of their own are born each year. The tragic result is
that over three million cats and dogs were euthanized in the
United States in 2009. Spay neuter programs are a critical
component to reducing and eventually eliminating this
number.
The HSCAZ
is deeply committed to providing
compassionate care and shelter for abandoned and homeless
animals who come our way until they can be placed in a
loving home. We collaborate with and attract potential
adopters along with breed rescues from all over the United
States and even into Canada. We strive to ensure that only
animals that are deemed unadoptable due to injury, illness
or aggressive behavior are euthanized.
