Lost & Found

What to do first?

If you have lost or found a pet, we encourage you to call the shelter and file a lost/found report. You can also post a Lost/Found listing online on Craigslist, and on Facebook. Be sure to upload a photo (if you have one) and give a detailed description.  You may also call KMOG's Trades & Sales, Monday - Friday from 12:00pm to 1:30pm at 928-474-2427 with your lost/found pet report or you can create a lost/found post on paysontradesandsales.com.

If an animal arrives at HSCAZ and it has a microchip, license tag, rabies tag or an ID tag, we will immediately call the number listed. PLEASE keep your information current on your pet’s ID tag and microchip. Collars and tags can easily fall off of an animal, which is why we encourage getting your pets microchipped. You can come to the shelter any time during business hours to get a microchip, for just $25.

Animals that arrive with identification are held for 5 days before being put up for adoption and animals without identification are held for 3 days before being put up for adoption.

I found a lost pet.

If you have found a stray animal within Gila County and cannot identify the owner, you may bring the animal to HSCAZ. We are located at 605 W. Wilson Ct, Payson, AZ 85541.

If you found an animal outside of Gila County, please contact the shelter closest to where you found the animal.

I’m looking for my pet.

If you are missing a pet, we ask that you come and look in person. We don’t want to misunderstand your phone description and overlook your best friend, so coming to the shelter to look is best. All animals brought to HSCAZ are housed on-site.  You may also submit a Lost Pet Report to HSCAZ (CLICK HERE).

If your pet is here at HSCAZ, there may be reclaim fees you will have to pay before you can reclaim your animal.

To reclaim your animal, please bring in proof of ownership such as: current town/county license, proof of current vaccinations, vet records, or a photo of the animal. Providing proof of ownership will ensure the owner is being reunited with the correct pet. A microchip and/or tags with owner information can reduce the amount of reclaim fees you will be responsible for.  If you would like to get a microchip for your pet, please call us at (928) 474-5590.
